Requirements
St Patrick's College is a well-respected teacher training college, serving more than 2,000 students taking courses in Education and Humanities. When existing buildings on site were demolished to make way for a new development, the college needed to source interim teaching accommodation to serve the students until the new building was completed. The extensive facilities required included lecture halls, classrooms, tutorial rooms and toilets - representing a significant challenge for any modular building supplier.

Solution
Oliver Dooley, Buildings Maintenance Officer at the College, says: “Portakabin was chosen to supply the interim building we needed, following a competitive tender process. The company offered the best price combined with the quality of buildings we were looking for.”
Working from plans provided by the college’s architect, Portakabin devised a large single-storey teaching complex, using its premium-standard Ultima buildings. The facilities were divided across three separate but inter-linked buildings, plus a linked toilet block. Together the buildings provide almost 780m2 of teaching space, in light, bright, well-ventilated and comfortable surroundings.
The full complex incorporates two 132m2 lecture halls, plus nine classrooms, tutorial rooms and conference rooms, ranging in size from 30m2 to 51m2. The higher-than-average ceiling heights of the Ultima building modules (2.6m) made them the perfect choice, particularly for the large lecture theatres.
The modules were delivered to site, craned into position and installed by Portakabin on the agreed dates, despite very low temperatures and snow on the ground.
